Hi Artsies 💚
I did a Colour Me Happy presentation 2 years back if not longer and it baffles my mind why I never did a blog. You can have a look at it on the link – https://youtu.be/7YVuaXBx42o
I’m the definition of someone who’s obsessed with colour, I think it shows more in my interests than on my physical person. My clothes are more on the comfortable side and I wear colours that don’t stand out as much. However when it comes to my journals, dream home ideas and pinterest boards you’ll find the colour inside of me just waiting to come out.
The home design on You People (the movie) where Lauren and Jonah lived was written Leah all over the walls, couches, cabinets, coffee table and decor pieces. I would design my home exactly like this to a tee. I think the issue of saying I would is that I could do it now, however the lack mindset tends to keep someone like myself at bay and I end up going for duller colours(that I still love), but duller nonetheless.
Colour in my opinion is as important as sound, touch, taste, sight and smell, it gives something that is so heartfelt and emotional to all the things that it is added to.
“Color Psychology is based on the scientific effect of different hues of each color of the spectrum, on the human brain. Although the effects of the colors may seem similar, studies show that each individual responds differently to standard color schemes.” – https://foyr.com/learn/psychology-of-colors-in-interior-design/

I spoke about the colour wheel in one of my previous blogs, which helps with understanding which hues you can use and the colours that are more likely to work together and look amazing.
“Achieving a satisfying balance is a question of judgment: the ‘rules’ of colour are to be treated as guidelines; not diktats.” – https://interiordesignstudent.com/study-notes/colour-in-interior-design/

As you can see on the above picture the hue is the same, bright!! The colours which call in your eye the most are the objects which are basically unchangeable being the couches and the curtains. These are primary colours, then the decor items have some primary colours then complimentary colours for each of these primary colours.

Same goes for this picture, the hues are the same tone. I would change the back wall to white or cream with accented blinds in a corresponding blue or yellow instead. Then keep the colours on the wall on the far right, as these go really well with the rug.

The picture above has a mixture of both pastel and bright colours, however each colour palette is specified for one item. Example being, the wall in pastels then the mat and scatter cushions in bright colours.

On the picture above the mixture of colours is more in the wall art, this gives you the opportunity to design your home as simply or as complicated as you’d like. The above is the simple version where the colours of the wall art have been brought in with the decor items mostly giving it a feminine and soft feel.
Let me know if you’d try these kinds of designs in your home or if you’re a one colour at a time kind of person.
